What motivated the shepherd to disobey Laius' orders and keep the child Oedipus alive?

  1. The Shepherd did not want to kill the baby because he was kind enough to spare the child. He did realize the horrible fate of the child would follow him if he brought Oedipus to a different family.

  2. I think that Laius truly felt bad for the child that didn't even have the opportunity or option to save his own life. I also think that the shepherd was not at the liberty to make such a harsh action and wanted Oedipus to make it himself.
